It’s time for a vacation!

Family Favorite Chocolate Cake

Great for birthdays. Especially Mal’s. Great with peanut butter frosting or boiled frosting. Titi has fond memories of this cake growing up.

Family Favorite Chocolate Cake

Pro tip notes: Use large 3-layer cake or use 9x14x2” pan OR 1 bundt pan. (So many options Titi…)

Prep: Pre-heat oven to 350°. Grease & flour pan.

1/2 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs
1 c. milk
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. flour
2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. cocoa

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cream sugar & shortening, add eggs and beat well.

  2. Dissolve cocoa in 1/2 c. hot water. Beat to a smooth paste and then add milk, vanilla, baking soda, flour and salt.

  3. Add to wet ingredients and beat until combined.

  4. Bake at 350° for 40–45 minutes. (Depends what kind of pan you use. Could be 30 minutes, but Titi uses an angel food cake pan).

Here is what happens when you don’t bake the cake long enough for Mallory’s 28th birthday:
